The world of AR in Ecuador

Huairasinchi, in Ecuador, holds the record for the most editions in the history of adventure racing, with a total of 20. Each edition uncovers hidden locations in a country extraordinarily rich in biodiversity, traversing tropical lowlands, cloud forests, and snow-capped volcanoes. Racers immerse themselves in a unique cultural experience alongside local residents and indigenous communities along the course. The organizers work closely with these communities to promote their culture and explore ancient trails and areas outside the usual tourist routes.

For the 2024 Adventure Racing World Championship, scheduled from November 28 to December 8, the city of Cuenca will host teams from around the globe. The southern region of Ecuador is rich in culture, nature, and adventure-ready landscapes. This diverse area offers a unique and immersive experience, combining tropical jungles, pristine rivers, breathtaking highlands, and more. While altitude won’t be a key factor in this race, teams should prepare for an epic adventure filled with abundant wildlife, varied terrain, and ever-changing weather conditions throughout the course.

“Hosting a World Championship 10 years after our first is a significant challenge and a great responsibility,” shared race directors Rodolfo Peralta and Santiago López. “We are thrilled to plan a magnificent event with a completely new route through unexplored locations in the south. The experience we gained from the previous championship will help us deliver a dream event in one of the most diverse places on Earth. Culture, nature, and wild terrain will be part of an unforgettable expedition.”
